Agentic commerce

What is Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)?

Definition: The Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) is Google's agentic-commerce standard, launched at NRF 2026, covering the full journey from product discovery to post-purchase across Google's AI surfaces.

Where OpenAI's ACP is transaction-focused and powers ChatGPT Shopping, UCP is broader — spanning discovery, purchase and post-purchase across Google AI Mode and related surfaces. Both consume the same fuel: clean, structured, machine-readable product data.

Merchants don't have to choose. Optimizing your structured data and feed once makes you eligible across ACP, UCP and MCP-based agents simultaneously.

Do I need to implement UCP and ACP separately?

No. Both read structured product data (schema.org Product/Offer, clean feeds). Get the data right once and you're eligible across surfaces.
